Start and Arts and Crafts Business

Start a business of arts and crafts. This can be done at your home or you can go to Boy Scout or Girl Scout meetings or any other type of meetings. You can charge per person, or as a group charge. You may or may not supply the necessary items needed to make your craft. You have a lot of flexibility to do this.

You can hold these meetings anywhere and teach your craft, and you can have bigger classes or one on one classes.  This will be up to you where you hold your meetings. Maybe you have a basement or a garage that you can teach your classes at. If you are doing this from home you will want to make sure that your home owners insurance will cover your business.

What are some of the things that you can make and teach?

You don’t want anything real techie to make, but something that most people will be able to make and learn a new craft. Maybe you can teach knitting, sewing, crocheting. Do you know how to make jewelry or rubber stamping? Maybe you are good with polymer clay. Usually no matter what your skill is and your craft is you will be able to teach it to someone and earn money. Make your hobby as your part time or fulltime business that you will be able to make money.

Where to advertise

Make flyers, when you go to local craft stores use business cards to hand out from your tables. You can also maybe put cards and flyers at craft stores in your area. Word of mouth is another great way to get customers and clients. Does your cable company have a community announcement channel that you can advertise on?

What you can expect to make with your arts and crafts business

It will all depend on how many people you get for your classes and how you charge for your time. You will be able to charge extra for material if you bring the materials. You probably can expect to make anywhere between $20 and $50 an hour.
