With the economy being so slow right now it is hard to find decent jobs, one good career choice that the industry is always hiring is customer service representatives in call centers. Being a call center representative is steady work and is not physical work.
What a call center representative does is product support in answering customer’s questions about the products that their company sells. Also there are telemarketing call centers where you make sale calls or you can get a position in billing and debt collection. When working in call centers every day is different with the type of calls that you get.
A typical day in a call center is where you will sit at a cubicle all day with a computer, a telephone, and a headset with a mouthpiece. When a call comes and you take the call verify the information of the customer and answering any questions, resolve problems that the customer may have or do tech support depending on your job. Sometimes you may get billing calls where you have to explain bills, and you can get payments over the phone and you may add or remove services from accounts are the customer’s request. Once in while you may have to mail letters to the customer or facts and information are retrieved things from the fax machine. But the majority of your day is sitting at your cubicle.
While call center job is not physical work it is very stressful work mentally, some days you never know what mood the customer will be when the call in. They may be upset with the company that you work for and unfortunately they take out their anger on you. To be a successful candidate to be a call center representative you must be able to do with the stress on the phone calls and be able to calm down and irate customers. While most of the customers are very nice, once in awhile you will get an irate customer that is hard to deal with him hard to handle that if you take the time to listen to their concerns normally you will find that they do have a legitimate complaints. Usually these customers will tell you how they want to be compensated for their problem or how they want problem solved it may be within your empowerment to do it and you can solve a complaint and have a good resolution to their problem. Once in awhile you may have to escalate the call to the supervisor if you cannot resolve the problem yourself.
Depending on the call volume at the call center you are working in you may take anywhere from eight to 200 calls a day. Most of the time at the call center you will be talking for 8 hours a day with very few breaks game between phone calls.
Usually at the call centers when you get a job if you will go through intensive training on their products and services. They will tell you exactly what, calls to expect and what empowerment that you have to resolve their calls. Customer service representatives are usually the front line for the company, and the one that the customer speaks to in the company. You are representative of that company said they will normally have you well trained for it your position.
Customer service work can be rewarding customer service work can be rewarding, and you feel a sense of accomplishment whenever you resolve a difficult issue or problem. If you are bilingual they will be many jobs available for you and the customer service call center industries as many companies are now searching for bilingual customer service representatives.
For this career the pays vary greatly depending on if you specialize for tech support on their products and services or if you on commission for products and for upgrades to products. But this is one industry that is always hiring and always looking for new employees. The nice thing about being a customer service rep is sometimes you can do it from home. This is a great way to earn extra income from home.
