EBaying

Ebay- The largest marketplace online. You can sell or buy anything. This is also a great way to make a ton of money if you are selling. Many people have quit their jobs and do nothing but sell online with EBay.

You make money by buying things, then reselling online, You write the ads, pack and ship after the people pay for the item.  It’s easy to do and profitable for you.

First thing that you will need to do is sign up for an EBay Account. You can do that here.  Once you sign up for an account, you can then buy or better yet Sell.

Finding items to sell:

Finding things to sell is the fun part. Maybe you have items at home that you can sell, it’s like holding a virtually yard sale.

  • Goodwill, Thrift shops, Second-hand stores all are full of merchandise that can be resold online. Once I found a Burberry coat at Goodwill store, since they were having a sale that day, I got the coat for $4.50. I took it to the cleaners, had it professional dry cleaned,  created a listing, took photos of it and a week later it was sold for $750. That was a great profit, and I had less than $20 invested. So when looking at the stores do your homework, see what is profitable, then go shopping. You won’t find treasures like this every week, so take advantage of it when you can.
  • Dollar Stores. Dollar stores change merchandise frequently. These are great but not huge money makers, but you can make money. One person I know picked up Harry Potter notebooks for .25 cents each. *yes even dollar stores have great sales once in awhile. Each one of his cheap books brought over $7 each. not bad for dollar store items.
  • Big Lots – Clearance Racks at Stores- Each of these have potential to make you money. Buy cheap, sell high.
  • Yard sales- Auctions.  Yard sales and auctions hold many treasures. You never know what you will come across. What looks like junk to you, may not be. Bobble head baseball figures can be bought for $2.00 can sell for over $70 (another great sale of mine). To me it was a stupid little toy, but made me money.
  • Library – When they sell their books, these can be sold online for a profit.
  • Craigslist- You will be amazed at what is given away for free. Once there was about 500 books GIVEN away on craigslist. All I had to do was pick them up. So I borrowed a truck went and picked them up. I made money on that deal, all I had to do was list them, and take a photo of them and they almost all sold.  Since the books were free for me, I could sell them for a starting bid price of .99 cents and made a profit on every book I sold.  So when you are looking for things to sell, start at Craigslist.
  • Store Sales: When a store has a sale, you should check it out. Places like Best Buy, OfficeMax, and Staples have different sales in different parts of the country. So you may be able to pick it up at a bargain price and resell for a profit. If you purchase something, and it has a rebate, you can send in for the rebate, then sell the item doubling your investment.
  • Wholesale clubs:  Don’t forget the wholesale clubs when looking for items. If you buy something in bulk, then divide it up, you can make a profit that way.
  • Online Auctions- Look on Ebay for items that are going cheap, look for misspelled words of things, that have no bids on them. Buy in bulk from Ebay then divide it up for profits.

How to create a listing for ebay.

You don’t have to be fancy when creating a listing on Ebay. You will want to

  1. Describe the item the best as you can. Include all flaws, features, and a very detailed description of the item. Remember the buy can not see it in person.
  2. Take good clear photos of the item. Take photos of it’s flaws, its good side, and unique angles.
  3. Clearly state shipping policy.  You can charge handling fees this will cover your packaging, but don’t charge 1 cent for the item then $99.99 for shipping. Get a scale and get an accurate weight on the item then figure your cost by going to www.usps.com so that you can charge the correct price.
  4. Get a PayPal Account. Most people will prefer to pay with PayPal on Ebay. PayPal accounts are free.
  5. In the ad explain your refund policy. Will you take the item back? (most places that do- make the buyer pay for return shipping). Is the item sold as is? No refunds? Do you guarantee the item works? While most buyers and ebayers are honest, sometimes you will find some that will try to get over on you. Always state your policies in such a way that you leave no doubt.
  6. When will you ship? Will you only ship on certain days?
  7. How long will you give the buyer till the money is expected?

Before selling on ebay, read over the FAQ’s, look over some ebay ads to see what their policies are, and how they do their layouts and create their ads.

Tips for successful selling:

  • Start and end your auctions about 7-9pm Eastern time. This is when the most people are on ebay.
